Stage 3: Getting your student finance
Full-time undergraduate, tuition fee only students

Getting paid your student finance

Once your student finance application has been approved, you’ll receive a Notification of Entitlement letter. This will confirm your Tuition Fee Loan amount.

Who we pay

Your Tuition Fee Loan will be paid directly to your university or college in 3 instalments once they’ve confirmed your attendance.

When we pay

We’ll pay your Tuition Fee Loan once your university or college have confirmed you’ve registered and started attending your course. You’ll need to register on your course before any payments can be made.

What we need before we pay you

Before we can pay your university or college, we need to check your National Insurance number (NINO) with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). If you don’t have a valid NINO before the start of your course, we can only pay the first instalment of tuition fees until we get this.

You can give us your NINO when you apply for student finance. If you don’t have a NINO, you can apply for one at: www.gov.uk/apply-national-insurance-number
