Parents and partners
If you will be supporting a student’s application you will need to provide information about you and your household income.
Supporting a new application
If you support your child's application
Your household income is the combined income of:
- your child
- your spouse
- your partner (even if you weren't living with them during the previous tax year)
If you're supporting your partner's application
- Your household income is the combined income of you and your partner (even if you weren't living with them during the previous tax year).
How to submit
You need to complete an Assessment of Financial Circumstances Form (PGPFF) if you are supporting a student’s application. This form will be available for the student to download from their online account. This should be printed off, completed by you and returned with any evidence requested. Only if the student is unable to download the form you should use the Assessment of Financial Circumstances Form in Forms and Evidence
Although Postgraduate Master’s Finance is a different service you can use your previous customer reference number and password, if you have one, when contacting us. You will not be able to apply online or view any correspondence linked to any Postgraduate Master’s Finance application you are supporting. You will however, be able to view any undergraduate students application you are supporting on your existing account.
What you'll need
You'll need to know the following about a previous tax year:
- your household's taxable income
- details of your personal taxable income
The previous tax year will be:
- 2017 to 2018 if your partner or child is applying for the 2019 to 2020 academic year
We recommend that you have your National Insurance number to hand when you're entering your financial information.
What happens next?
Once we receive your application and all information we need we will process the student's application and send them a letter to confirm their finance.
If you have provided a National Insurance number we will check your financial information with HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC). This will usually take up to 2 weeks.
If we need any further information or evidence we will contact you. You should return any information or evidence to us as quick as possible so we can process the students application based on the household income.
Supporting an application for an EU Student
You will still be required to complete an Assessment of Financial Circumstances Form (PGPFF) when supporting a student’s application, even if all your income is non-UK taxable. The student can download the form from their online account for you to complete and return with evidence required.
Getting permission to access a student's account information
Student Finance Wales cannot discuss any aspect of a student's account or application with anyone other than the student without their permission. This includes partners and parents of students.
If you need to access a student's account information the student will need to give us their consent to share information.
More details about how the student can set this up can found here:
