Clearing 2024
If you've not applied for student finance yet
If you’re thinking of attending uni or college this year, it’s important that you sign in or create an online account (opens in a new tab) and apply as soon as possible to make sure you get some funding for the start of your course. It can take 6 to 8 weeks for us to process your application, so there’s no need to call us for an update during this time.
If you apply late, your money might be late too. Find out more about applying late. It’s easy to apply and only takes 30 minutes. Apply using your first choice of course. You can change this later if you need to.
Apply now for student finance to get funding as early as possible!
If you apply for the higher amount of student finance based on your household income, make sure to ask your parent(s) or partner to provide their financial information as soon as possible to avoid delays.
Your funding
Once you submit your application, we may award you a Maintenance Loan and Grant that’s not based on your household income to ensure you have money for the start of your course. We’ll then process your household income details, and we’ll adjust your Maintenance Loan and Grant entitlement.
The Maintenance Loan and Grant that’s not based on household income is shown in the tables below.
Living with your parents | |
---|---|
Loan | £9,315 |
Grant | £1,000 |
Total | £10,315 |
Living away from home, studying outside London | |
---|---|
Loan | £11,150 |
Grant | £1,000 |
Total | £12,150 |
Living away from home, studying in London | |
---|---|
Loan | £14,170 |
Grant | £1,000 |
Total | £15,170 |
Once we process your household income details, the total amount you’ll be paid will not change, but the ratio of Maintenance Loan and Grant might. If you’ve been paid too much Maintenance Loan, this may need to be paid back or will be taken away from any future Maintenance Loan entitlement.
If your Maintenance Grant increases you could receive a further payment. Grants do not need to be paid back.
Example
David applied late for student finance after confirming a place at university through Clearing. David’s annual entitlement for the 2024 to 2025 academic year is £10,315 as he is living with parents. The entitlement is broken down as £9,315 Maintenance Loan and £1,000 Maintenance Grant which is not based on the household income.
6 weeks after we receive the household income details of £25,000 we adjust David’s entitlement. The annual entitlement does not change, but now he's entitled to £4,385 Maintenance Loan and £5,930 Maintenance Grant. If David has received too much Maintenance Loan, this will need paid back but he will receive an additional Grant payment.
Find out what your Maintenance Loan and Grant entitlement will look like based on your household income.
