Film description: Find out about the extra student finance you can get if you’re a full-time or part-time student with children or an adult who depends on you financially.
If you’re a full-time student, you might be able to get extra financial help if you have children or an adult who depends on you.
These grants are paid in addition to your main student finance.
The amount you get depends on your household income and doesn’t usually have to be paid back.
On screen: Childcare Grant
You can apply for a Childcare Grant to help pay your childcare costs for children in approved or registered childcare.
You could get up to 85% of your childcare costs, up to a maximum of £161.50 for 1 child, or £274.55 per week if you’ve got 2 or more children.
You’ll give us an estimate of your childcare costs when you apply (on screen appears an example of an estimate amount £256), and we’ll ask you to confirm these later.
On screen: Parents’ Learning Allowance
You can apply for Parents’ Learning Allowance to help with additional costs such as books and travel if you’ve got dependent children.
You could get up to one £1,577 a year. You can get Parents’ Learning Allowance even if you don’t pay for childcare.
On screen: Adult Dependants’ Grant
You can apply for Adult Dependants’ Grant if you have a partner or another adult who depends on you financially.
You could get up to £2,732 a year.
You don’t need to do anything else to apply for Parents’ Learning Allowance or Adult Dependants’ Grant. But to apply for Childcare Grant, you need to download a Childcare Grant application form from your student finance account, fill it in and return it to us. You can apply for Dependants’ Grants in English or Welsh.
