Course Intensity

What is course intensity?

Course intensity is the percentage of time that you’re studying compared to a student taking the equivalent full-time course.

Your entitlement to student finance can be affected by your course intensity.

How to work out your course intensity

You can work out your course intensity by taking the number of part-time units (such as credits, credit points or modules) you’re studying in the academic year and dividing it by the number of units you’d complete doing the course full-time. This is then multiplied by 100 to give you the course intensity for your period of study as a percentage:

(Part-Time Units / Full-Time Units) x 100 = Course Intensity (%)

If you’re not sure what your course intensity is, check with your university or college.
