How much does university or college cost?

You’ll need to make sure that you’re well prepared and have thought about the full cost of going to university or college.

Tuition fees

The tuition fee you're charged may vary depending on the university, college and course you choose. Your university or college can confirm the exact amount they charge for your course.

Living costs

There are many other costs associated with going to university, such as:

  • accommodation costs
  • food
  • clothing
  • books
  • travel expenses.

If you have to move away from home then you’ll need to plan ahead. Make sure that you’ve thought about accommodation costs as they will be one of your biggest expenses, especially if you choose to study in London and the surrounding area. If you choose to stay in halls of residence, you need to contact your university/college directly to discuss this. You’ll need to pay your accommodation costs directly to the university/college yourself.

To help you with these costs you can apply for a Welsh Government Learning Grant, which you don’t need to pay back, and a Maintenance Loan, which you do.
