You need to register for an account before you can apply online for student finance
Who should register?
You should register with Student Finance Wales if you live in Wales and you are:
- A new student intending to apply for student finance; or
- The parent or partner of a student and you’ve been asked to provide your household income details in support of a student’s application for finance.
Who should not register?
Continuing students
If you are going into your second or higher year at university or college you will already have an account with us, even if you haven’t applied online before. You do not need to register.

Parents and partners who have provided their details before
If you have ever provided your household income details to us before, even if it was to support a different student, you will already have an account with. You do not need to register.

Attending a Further Education college?
If you are attending a course at a Further Education (FE) college you should not register on this website.
You may instead wish to find out about EMA and ALG, which are grants available to FE students.
The only exception to this is if you are attending a course which leads to a degree-level qualification. Your college will be able to confirm if this is the case.
Registered before?
If you have registered before you will still exist on our system and do not need to register again.

Why should you register?
Whether you are a student or the parent or partner of a student, registering with Student Finance Wales is important. Once you’ve registered you can:
- Apply online for student finance
- Check the status of an application to see how it’s progressing
- Update your contact details and bank details for payments
- Provide your household income details securely online, if you are the parent or partner of the student
