Help for students with disabilities
Disabled Students’ Allowances help pay for extra costs when studying, as a result of your disability
How much can you get?
The amount of Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA) you get does not depend on your income, or that of your parents or partner.
You will have to attend a DSA needs assessment to determine the help you require to complete your course.
There are three different types of DSAs available:
| Allowance | Maximum amount available |
|---|---|
| Non-medical helper allowance | £20,520 per year |
| Specialist equipment allowance | £5,166 for the whole course |
| Other disability-related expenditure allowance | £1,729 per year |
How is it paid?
DSAs can either be paid to you or directly to any equipment or service suppliers.
Do you need to pay it back?
No. They are grants which do not need to be paid back.
