Welsh Bursary Scheme
Bursaries are extra financial help available from your university or college
How much can you get?
The amount you can get depends on your income and that of your parents or partner.
You can only receive a separate Welsh National Bursary if you are:
- Paying the full tuition fee amount of £3,465; and
- Receiving the full amount of Assembly Learning Grant or Special Support Grant.
The minimum available for 2012/13 is £347 but you may get more. Your university or college can provide more information on the exact amount of bursary available.
For students who started in academic year 2011/12, the Welsh National Bursary was combined into the amount of Assembly Learning Grant and Special Support Grant that you can receive.
You will not be eligible to receive a separate bursary in 2012/13, unless you were a gap-year student in 2011/12.
If you were a gap year student and you meet the other requirements above, you may still be eligible for a bursary in 2012/13.
Do you need to pay it back?
No. It is a grant which does not need to be paid back.
How do you get a bursary?
When you apply for student finance, you must make sure that you and anyone supporting your application allows consent for us to share your application information for bursary and scholarship purposes.
Consent is automatically assumed but it is possible to opt-out of information sharing during the application process. But doing that will prevent you from being automatically assessed for any bursaries that you may be entitled to.
