To apply for ALG (FE), you need to:
- think about what course you want to do and where you want to study;
- set up a bank or building society current account if you haven’t already;
- complete the application form;
- wait for a letter saying you are accepted;
You will only get your payments once we get confirmation from your college that you are attending.
If your application is not accepted you will be sent a letter telling you why not.
Your course
If you think your age and household income meet the conditions for ALG (FE), you then need to make sure your course does. You must be studying at least 275 hours on your course to be eligible, and your college must confirm that you are progressing on your course for you to continue to get ALG (FE).
Your home address needs to be in Wales. You must be on a course that leads to a nationally recognised qualification.
Eligible academic and vocational courses include, GCSE’s, ‘A’ Levels, BTEC, NVQ, GNVQ and Basic Skills courses.
You don’t need to know exactly what course you will take when you apply, but the course must be ‘eligible’.
The Application Form
For courses running between 1 September 2008 and 31 August 2009, you can get an application form from your school or college, or print one off.
