If you think you qualify you need to:
- think about what course you want to do and where you want to study;
- set up a bank or building society current account if you haven’t already;
- complete the application form;
- wait for a letter telling you that you are accepted onto EMA;
- sign a Learning Agreement with your school or college.
You will only get your payments once we get confirmation from your college that you are attending.
If your application is not accepted you will be sent a letter telling you why not.
Your course
If you think your age and household income meet the conditions for EMA, you then need to make sure your course does. You need to start or remain at a participating school or college in Wales, and be on a course that is:
- an academic or vocational course up to and including Level 3, and;
- full-time at school, or;
- a minimum of 12 guided hours at college.
Eligible academic and vocational courses include, GCSE’s, ‘A’ Levels, BTEC, NVQ, GNVQ and Basic Skills courses. They must last at least 10 weeks.
You don’t need to know exactly what course you will take when you apply, but the course must be ‘eligible’.
If you change your school or college, you must tell the EMA Customer Services Team. Look here for how to contact us.
The Application Form
For courses running between 1 September 2008 and 31 August 2009, you can get an application form from your school or college, or print one off.
